  • Only slightly more expensive models offer more features

Char-Broil brings a no-frills electric smoker to market, but they may have misfired on sacrificing features that matter in order to get the price down. While we appreciate the quality and the Char-Broil name, there's just too many other options under 200 dollars that make more sense.

Char-Broil Vertical Electric Smoker Introduction

Char-Broil is one of the leading brands in the gas grill area. They are popular with their low-cost ingenious designs grills making them one of the largest manufacturers worldwide. They are not new in the business, in fact, the company has been around since 1948, when the first Char-Broil grill was made and first sold in the United States. Today, they ship grills of all types around the world. The Char-Broil Vertical Electric Smoker offers a lot of space for the money for smoking all types of food; its large smoking compartment comes with three plated racks that deliver 504 square inches smoking your food.

  • Double walled insulation for consistent temperatures
  • Porcelain coated water and wood tray
  • Chrome-plated handle
  • Small cup for grease dripping making it easy to clean-up
  • Door mounted analog thermostat
  • 1,500 watt heating element
  • Heat temperature as low as 160 degrees and can get hot to 225 degrees

The exterior and interior of the Char-Broil Vertical Electric Smoker is made up of a steel and its dimensions are 44″x19.68″x22.44 (HxWxD). It weights 40.8 pounds, and is portable as well as weather resistant. That means its likely to weather the elements should you need to store it outside. We always recommend buying a cover, however..

The Char-Broil Vertical Electric Smoker is easy to use and is built from excellent materials that provide great insulation. The only downside thing is the door; you have to push a little harder to keep it close. Furthermore, there are no digital controls on this unit, so you’ll need to keep your eye on it while cooking.

The ease of use and simplicity of the Char-Broil Vertical Electric Smoker, as well as its low price are a huge selling points. Also, its large capacity means you can get the job done in just one setting. It is less expensive compared to other brands, yet it gets the job done. It’d make for a great secondary unit where precision is not as much of a concern. However, if you have a few extra dollars, we feel that the overall performance and feature set of the Masterbuilt Electric Smoker make it a better overall option. If you’re looking to save a few more dollars, the Landmann USA Smoky Mountain Electric Smoker is cheaper, and also comes with a window, at the price of being a bit smaller than the Char-broil, as well as lacking as many grates.

If you do think that this could be something you’re interested, we’ve found some modifications that will make this a much better electric smoker:
