Cuisinart Tabletop Grill Review – Introduction

Cuisinart Tabletop GrillThe Chef’s Style CGG-306 Cuisinart Tabletop Grill, the popular producer of kitchen gadgets, is an excellent option for serious and casual grillers alike. Named the best portable grill by Consumer Reports, it combines ease of portability and setup with serious grilling power thanks to its lightweight design, fold-up legs and latching lid, as well as its two stainless steel burners than can produce up to 20,000 BTUs of heat.

Out of the box

This grill is designed to be lightweight, so the total shipping weight is just 28.15 pounds. The box also contains nearly everything you will need to get started. Since setup requires no tools, all you need to provide is the 20-pound propane tank and you will be ready to go. However, one issue that some have noted is that the stainless steel used in this grill’s construction is a lighter gauge than they expected and the grill is prone to denting as a result. In fact, some found that the grill lid was already dented when they pulled it out of the box.

Initial setup

Chef's Style CGG-306Putting together a grill doesn’t get any easier than this, largely because there is virtually no assembly required! All you have to do is unfold the legs, ensure that the burner covers, cooktop, and drip tray are all in their proper places, attach the grill to a 20-pound propane tank with the included hose, and you should be ready to start grilling immediately. You won’t even need to remember matches or a lighter, thanks to the Twist Start ignition system.

What We Liked

The Cuisinart Tabletop GrillĀ can produce a lot of heat–more than 700 degrees without breaking a sweat–and it does so quickly thanks to the stainless steel design and high-powered burners. Some point out that it can be difficult to maintain lower temperatures on this grill, but the dual burners make this a relatively simple fix, as you can simply cook with one burner. Just sear the meat over the lit burner and then move it to the other side and use indirect heating to finish cooking. The adjustable knobs and built-in thermometer actually make it easy to maintain a constant temperature while the lid is closed.

What To Look Out For

Because the grill is made from lightweight stainless steel, it does lose heat quickly when the lid is opened. Fortunately though, this little design quirk also helps the grill to get back up to the proper temperature quickly once the lid is replaced. The bigger problem is that the material is susceptible to denting and may not offer the durability that some grilling enthusiasts seek. The stainless steel design does improve this grill’s portability though, and it also makes for easier clean-up (the drip tray, burner covers, and other removable pieces can be placed in your dishwasher as well), so the design does offer a pretty decent trade off for anyone who enjoys grilling on the go.

Excellent performance, good overall construction, and portability justify the Chef’s Style CGG-306 price. All in all, we were very pleased with thisĀ Cuisinart Tabletop Grill.
