Davy Crockett Pellet Grill by Green Mountain Grills Review

When thinking of pellet grilling, a few things come to mind: consistent temperatures, electronic controls, long cook times make it perfect for more complex smoking. But what you don’t often think about is portability. That’s because most pellet grills are large, with heavy attachments that feed pellets to the grill, and require a constant electrical power source to function. The Green Mountain Grills  Davy Crockett Pellet Grill solves this problem by providing three different ways of delivering electricity on the go.

Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett Portable Pellet Grill Features

  • Open Flame Technology
  • 110V or 12V with adaptors for 3 Power Options
  • Portable, Folded Legs Double as Handles
  • Ultimate Tailgating Grill
  • Includes Sense-Mate, a thermal sensor which constantly monitors grill temperature

Out of the Box and Setup

The grill comes well packed in a cardboard box, and for as much technology is packed into its design, it’s farily easy to setup. Just remove the grill and unfold the legs. The lid comes wrapped in plastic, and all accessories including the grates come wrapped in bubble wrap and tied together inside the grill. From there, it’s standard fare.

The Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett comes with a 9lb hopper with automatic ignition and three power adapters: a standard wall connector, a 12V connector that can plug into your car’s cigarette lighter, and alligator clips to connect to your car’s battery with a generous 12-foot cord. The latter is handy if your car’s charger doesn’t operate unless the car is on. Compared to the Traeger TFB29LZA Junior Elite Grill, which does have a larger grill area, by about 20% or so, it can manage the temperature at a more granular level. You can control the unit either through the control panel, or via an app for your smart phone. The company is working on cloud-based functionality so you can control it remotely, just in case you need to run an errand. The app also allows you to program a cooking schedule via a series of instructions, handy if you’re looking to set it and forget it. Setting the grill on your tailgate will negate the use of the grease catcher, however. Overall, its finely-tuned control allows you complete control over your food, and with a programmed schedule, you may not even need to open the lid until you eat. We recommend using CookinPellets 40PM Perfect Mix Smoking Pellets.
