The Traeger Pellet Grills Junior Elite 19.5K BTU Pellet Grill Review

For the serious BBQ master, Traeger Junior Elite 19.5K BTU Pellet Grill is a serious contender. Traeger is one of the most well known pellet grill brands out there, and their Junior Elite comes in at the right price even for the average backyard warrior. But its performance, consistency, and the applicaiton of Traeger’s tested technology has made this a go-to weapon for even competition grilling. The Traeger Junior Elite is relatively compact pellet grill. If you have two people and the backseat of a car, the legs can be removed to take it on the go (folding legs are sold separately.) It delivers a consistent temperature that makes it difficult to mess things up. The assembly is simplistic, coming mostly pre-assembled, it only takes thirty minutes or less to put together, even for a beginner.

Traeger Junior Elite Key Features

  • 300 square inches of cooking surface
  • A decorative bronze finish
  • A fully-automatic auger
  • Easy electronic auto start
  • Digital controls that are state of the art and user-friendly

Out of the Box

Not a lightweight unit, this 71 pound Traeger Pellet Grill version may take a couple set of hands to lift and put together. Made from steel, it is 21 x 23 x 21 inches, which makes it ideal for smaller spaces. It comes partially assembled with easy instructions for completion.

Initial Setup

The unit comes with the complex components already assembled, so you don’t have to worry about anything besides attaching the top and legs. Provided in the packaging are all the tools needed to build. Even for a beginner, if you read the instructions carefully, the process to set it up and go shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. Optional folding legs are sold seperately, so it can be used hauled to a tailgate party at a moment’s notice. The Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett comes out of the box ready to travel, however.

The Traeger Junior Elite was designed to smoke meat like a professional with very little effort or experience. A fairly portable unit, it also has the space for smoking larger cuts of meats, and with a large drip pan, unlike other smokers, you don’t have to worry about the grease catching fire and burning the exterior of your meat. Able to fit large portions of both pork and chicken, it is just right for feeding a crowd. Also, unlike propane grills or smokers, the meat that comes from the Traeger is slow-cooked and juicy without any undesired aftertaste.

One of the biggest advantages that the Traeger Junior Elite has over traditional grills is that it delivers steady and consistent temperatures. That means even cooking, which leads to juicy BBQ. Pellet grills in general exceed at this.

The Traeger Junior Elite is an easy to clean design. Not requiring gas or charcoal is a huge advantage, but you’ll need a source of electricity. Also, you’re not going to find pellets everywhere you’ll find charcoal. Pellets come in different flavors, however, which brings out the true mixologist in any BBQ’er and allows you to find the inner master griller.

Slightly more expensive model than traditional grills and smokers, it’s worth a look if you want to take your grilling and smoking to a new level. State of the art and professional controls help to deliver the most tender and juicy meat without fail. Enough room for an entire party, the cooking surface sufficient to cook large portions of pork or an entire chicken. If the price tag has you second guessing yourself, check out the Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett Pellet Grill.

Typically sold for a little more than $300, the Traeger Junior Elite is an investment. Having a smoker that does all the work for you is well worth the cost. We liked that it is compact, clean enough to take or store anywhere, and versatile enough to cook anything. If you are looking for something to help your already developing grill/smoking skills, this is the unit for you. No more hot spots, having to put the meat back on the grill, or tough, burnt, meat. You get tender, delicate and spectacular food every time, without fail.
